About Me

Hi, I’m Nils.

I've been building for the web since 1995, back when table layouts, spacer GIFs and browser quirks were part of everyday life. The technology has changed dramatically over the years, but what keeps me interested hasn't: solving problems, learning new things and building websites that are fast, accessible and maintainable.

Early in my career I worked at EdenSpiekermann in Amsterdam before deciding to spend six years living and working in Asia. After moving to Singapore and later Tokyo, I worked as a freelance Front-end Web Developer on projects for agencies, startups and international organisations. Besides broadening my technical experience, those years taught me how to collaborate with people from different cultures and disciplines.

Today I'm back in Amsterdam, working as a Software Developer at Studio HENK. My work spans e-commerce, front-end development and internal tools, but I also enjoy exploring areas beyond my day-to-day work. Whether it's building small CLI tools in Python, experimenting with Astro, automating Blender workflows or refining my development environment, I'm always looking for simpler and more effective ways to build things.

I don't believe every problem needs a framework or another dependency. I prefer straightforward solutions, thoughtful architecture and continuous learning over chasing the latest trend. Technology moves quickly, but good ideas tend to last.
