ASCII Motion

I came across ASCII Motion, a small web app for creating ASCII animations.

It can convert images and video into animated ASCII art, which is a fun alternative to regular GIFs or videos. The result is basically a sequence of text frames that can be played back in a terminal or on the web.

I was looking into this after seeing the animated ghost on the Ghostty website and wondering how these kinds of text-based animations are made.

ASCII art is surprisingly interesting in a world of high-resolution graphics. A fixed-width grid of characters can still create a lot of personality.
